Molecules of the YEAR!!!
Hello 2007 and good by 2006, and with that the High School Chemistry online hotline has made a list of the top 5 molecules of the year. Be sure to check back everyweek to see what molecules of the week we have for you in 2007.
1) Acetylsalicylic Acid
Headache anyone? Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) has been used for over 100 years. Not only is it an analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory, it is also helpful in preventing heart attacks and strokes. Until 1915 you needed a prescription for aspirin! With thaat said it easy to see why this is the top molecule of the year, Asprin is one of the most common bought drugs and many people may not know it comes from Acetylsalicylic Acid..
2)
| Citric acid gives lemons, oranges, and other citrus fruits their distinctive sour taste. Its antioxidant properties make it a good preservative as well. The citric acid cycle, also known as the Krebs cycle, is an important component of carbohydrate metabolism. |
Another favorite here at the online hot line is citirc acid. This acid is one of my favorite simply because with out it i would not have orange juice in the mornig wtih breakfast, and i love a good glass of OJ in the morning.
3)
| “Sugar” refers to a family of related chemical compounds that includes sucrose, the ordinary refined sugar found in Halloween candy. Sucrose is a disaccharide, or two-part molecule, formed by linking the monosaccharide sugars glucose and fructose. Honey–mostly a mixture of sucrose, glucose, and fructose–is formed when honeybees digest plant nectars using enzymes called invertases to break apart the sucrose molecules. |
Sugar is always a favorite in the holidays, and its a favorite hear at the online hot line, sugar is in the majority of food to add flavor and sweetness, this taste treat comes from a molcule used in chemistry.who knew?!!

TOP HOMEWORK HELP SITES!!
http://dbhs.wvusd.k12.ca.us/webdocs/ChemTeamIndex.html
This is a great site i found that can help you with almost any branch of chemistry. No matter the level of chemistry this site can help. It can help you with your homework but does not offer a forum or online help.
http://library.thinkquest.org/2923/
This site is great to help with your home work at a basic chemistry level. It has a list of many rules and an online table of elements. I would recomend this for high school chemistry but not beyond because it does not get into differnt branches of the study of chemistry.
http://www.tannerm.com/
This site is for high school chemistry students but it also goes into some specific parts chemistry such as electrochemistry. The sites also has list of molecules, atoms, elements, aquesus solutions, and pictures of molecules.

What is Chemistry?
Good question. Chemistry is a branch of science concerned with the properties, composition, and structure of substances and the changes they undergo when they combine or react under specified conditions.
